The first week of the new year is passing by at what seems like a pretty good clip. I’m enjoying the sense of the new year but also focusing on not stressing out about making too many changes.
Sometimes we can put too much pressure on ourselves to “start anew,” or “create an intention for the new year,” and then feel like somehow we’ve “failed” when we fall off the wagon or are way laid with our well made plans.
I’ve found that the times I’ve made any sustainable change has been no where near the new year. It just seems that this is what works best for me personally.
However if this new year is helping you start back up on the right foot towards a positive change and it’s working, keep going. Congratulations on your progress so far!
Since it’s almost the weekend (which for my life pre-baby used to be a reason to settle into the couch for great read) I’d like to share my list of books for your weekend reading.
This month, I’ll be sharing books titles every Friday from various genres. There will be some thought provoking non-fiction, gripping and entertaining fiction (the kind you shouldn't read before bed, because you may find yourself reading well into the night) and books on yoga that are informative and engaging
The first group of titles I'm sharing this weekend are books that I read while pregnant with baby Mila.
Most of the books I'll be listing have been borrowed from the library or are on my kindle, but I’ll include some that I have on hand in case you’d like to borrow them. This book was informative, witty and provides a different perspective on parenting that I fully appreciate after raising my older daughters. It also gave me some ideas on how to parent differently prior to the birth of my 3rd baby girl. It continues to be my top favorite book because of its journalistic style and humor. It was so good that even my husband enjoyed reading it.
Yes, yes, time and time again, parents will be always obsessed about sleep. Sleep patterns, sleep training, sleep habits. My pediatrician recommended Baby Wise which I also read. My friend Ira recommended Happy Sleeper. After reading BOTH books, I am definitely more attuned to the Happy Sleeper’s methods of cultivating better sleep habits for your infant and your whole family. We haven’t really done “sleep training” per se but we are thus far content with our baby's ability to sleep through the night. I hope I didn't just jinx this now two week streak! If you're looking for a book on sleep training, this is pretty great place to start.
When I was prego, I didn’t want to just focus on pregnancy and baby books. This one had been on my list for a while and was a great compliment to the other books I was reading at the time. There are useful insights into how not to fall into the helicopter parenting trap (something I had done for years) and raising independent children. I wish I had read this when my older children were still young, however I still found it incredibly informative and useful. I will definitely re-read this book again in the future.
